Here’s the deal guys..my mother filed her 2009 taxes and my sister noted an error. They sent the papers somewhere so the error could be corrected (sounds vague because this is all they are telling me). I need to fill out the fafsa form for 2011 which means I need a parents 2009 taxes ( I am 20 years old). But whom ever she sent her copy too has not sent it back and the man who prepared them will not return any of my phone calls even though he knows I need a copy for school. Total douchebag that one. Anyways..i have her 2008 taxes. And since then, nothing has changed much. The amount of money she made is about the same. I’m wondering if I should just use the ’08s. I know it’s not what I’m suppose to do and dishonest and punishable if discovered. My question is do you know anyone who has done it successfully? Is it a stupid idea? I know this is federal aid and I shouldn’t mess with the feds but theres really no difference in what she made..maye a couple hundred dollars, what are the chances they will look up what she actually made versus what I put down? ugggh I just want to go back to school :(

NO. YOU NEED TO USE THE 2009 TAX RETURN. At the end of the application, you AND your mother signs off on it saying this information you are about to submit is not only your’s, but is accurate. Failing to do so knowlingly and/or unlawfully can result in jail time or fines.

If you just need a copy of the tax return, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. They can send you a tax transcript which has the same information.

Has someone done it successfully? Probably, i wouldn’t recommend it. Formulas change every year, so using the previous income will not reflect accurately.
